About Wilco

Back in 1994, Wilco was formed out of a split of the alt-country group "Uncle Tupelo". Singer Jeff Tweedy formed the new band John Stirratt, Ken Coomer, and Max Johnston. From their first album "A.M." to their Billboard 200 chart-dominating era in the 2000s to their latest 2023 release "Cousin", Wilco has become well-known in the alt-rock scene for their explorative sound, diverse influence, and honest lyrics.

Their critically-acclaimed records include "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" which sold 630K+ copies in the US, "A Ghost Is Born" which hit #4 on the Billboard 200, their 2007 album "Sky Blue Sky", and many more. At their live shows, the band plays as much songs as they can, making sure that every concert packs a ton of surprises and favorites. In an interview with The Current, Tweedy looks back at realizes that they've played over 98 songs across three shows in Austin.

"Wilco tends to have a pretty vast repertoire at our fingertips most of the time, just because we tour a lot and we've never really stopped playing songs from older records, and we rehearse a lot on the road," said Tweedy. "We have a practice room set up every day, so we play every day, and a lot of times we're practicing songs that don't get played on the whole tour."

What Critics Say

About their sound, they've been hailed as the "American Radiohead" by critics - noting the band's diverse styles across their catalog. New York Times described that band having a "roots-rock ... [sound which] reached back to proven materials: the twang of country, the steady chug of 1960s rock, the undulating sheen of the Beach Boys, the honky-tonk hymns of the Band and the melodic symmetries of pop."

Meanwhile, Rolling Stone named the band as "one of America's most consistently interesting bands." Various publications have shared the same sentiments about Wilco's music. Moreover, other artists have recognized the "Speak Into The Rose" hitmakers as one of their inspirations.

As this August evening comes rushing through, make sure you have your spots marked by booking those tickets now!
